July is a month known for it's warm weather celebrations and my inspiration comes from the latest wedding trend: sequins. They are at once romantic, trendy and very celebratory. 

The gorgeous sequin gown in spot #2, would be an elegant, yet nontraditional wedding dress for the bride wishing to shine all night. 

Continue the sequins theme through to a table cloth for accent as in images #1 & #5 and in image #7, a cake baker has abstracted sequins for a delicious looking sweet treat. 

Roses, peonies, and babies breath would be the perfect simple bouquet accompaniment to a shiny dress and table setting.

Love stripes and polka dots but don't want an overly vintage affair? 

Make it modern by choosing a bold base color (navy, in this case) and a bright, modern color (magenta) and incorporate plenty of white into your palette. 

Don't be afraid to mix and match patterns: the invitations in this board incorporate dots and stripes in a pleasing manner. Pick a dress with a very fine dotted fabric for a fun, romantic, yet modern dress and incorporate your beautiful dress design into the cake. Need more pattern ideas? To not overwhelm the decorations, keep the prints to accessories. Think ribbons on place settings, dots on ties for your groom, and funky stripes on your own heels. 

Incorporate large blooms of peonies into your theme for an in-season, simple addition to your fun-loving affair.

With the early May showers this season I was inspired to choose a blue and yellow palette. Each can be powerful colors. I chose a bright yellow with gold tones and a deep navy for balance. This palette is perfect for any time of the year, whether it be football fans celebrating their union in the fall or sailors tying the knot during the summer. It's a versatile color palette with white and yellow floral in season nearly all year long.

Vintage Milk Glass Inspiration Board for WV Weddings

WV Weddings Mint and Yellow Vintage Inspiration Board, April 2013

I was inspired by Fenton Glass, the historic glass factory  in Williamstown, WV for this inspiration board. As noted on pinterest, the mason jar trend is moving towards decorative milk glasses (white floral vases) and other colored glass.

I love the particular colors of white and mint green for milk glasses and yellow and white flowers make a beautiful, vintage combination. To stick with the theme pick yellow or mint bridesmaid dresses and send your guests home with trendy mint macaroons!

A little bit late, Pink Ombre Valentine's Inspiration

This inspiration board was design for a Valentine's Day Blog Post on the WV Weddings Planner's Palette Blog. Better late than never when it comes to a Pretty Pink Ombre Inspiration board.

Since this is late I am going to share what fun I had preparing this set of inspiration boards. I now do two a month, one for WV Weddings (my native state) and one for bridebook, the new wedding publication I am a founding member of at Leisure Publishing in Roanoke, Va. I am living out a dream working on an official wedding magazine and these inspiration boards are the proverbial icing on the cake.  Speaking of cake, can I please have a taste of #5 on this board, gosh, it's so perfect looking!

What's the perfect Valentine's Day wedding trend? A pink or red ombre color scheme. The cascading colors from red to pink to blush to ivory blend for a romantic, trendy Valentine's wedding celebration.

Your options with an ombre palette are limitless. For a very creative take, one DIY bride painted bottles in various pinks, peaches, and creams for a fun budget and environmentally friendly center piece (#6). And the ombre theme doesn't just have to start at the reception—a series of cream, pink, and dark pink ribbons can be layered (#7) for an incredible backdrop to your vows.
Of course, the fun part of an ombre palette is picking out a cake with cascading color layers and a matching candy bar for guests to take home lots of fun Valentine's inspired goodies.

My favorite March flowers are hyacinths. Their fragrance and pastel colors are an angelic reminder of warmth and re-growth of the spring season.  

Hyacinths in pale blue and white make a perfect palette for a charming early spring wedding (#2) Continue the casual charm of the season with navy suit jackets and khakis for the guys and pale blue seersucker dresses on the girls (#8). 

Your wedding dress can even fit the theme literally, Jenny Packham's "Hyacinth" dress is a spring beauty in it's own right (#3).

I forgot to post this in August, so here's a little summer inspiration for bride's looking to get married in the warm months of August or September. Have a blast planning!!

August is a beautiful time of year in West Virginia. It seems the green of the mountains and fields brighten before they slowly become ablaze in gold and red hues.

Thus, a green and white wedding in August is very fitting. A simple outdoor affair with fern fronds, leaves, and white flowers to grace tables and wedding bouquets. It's a perfect casual evening affair to celebrate outside and dance under the warm August stars.

December weddings are perfect for destination celebrations if you and your significant other like to play in the snow. West Virginia offers so many ski resort options with lots of fun locations for pre- and post-wedding fun.

I love the idea of rustic-themed weddings with pinecones, moss, berries, roses, and hydrangeas (#1, #10, #12) gracing bouquets and centerpieces. Add to the coziness with candles and a hot chocolate bar (#13) at the reception.

Send guests to their hotel rooms with funny door hangers (see #7) and send them home to plant a spruce for a future Christmas tree (#11) and a great memory of your wedding!

Planners Palette Post

When September comes around I can't get three things off my mind: caramel apples, cider, and caramel corn, so it was natural (and very fun) to search for wedding ideas to celebrate the beginning of fall and all the great food and traditions that come with the season.

I chose, of course, caramel as my main color and then orange, dark brown, and mustard yellow as accent colors. Pumpkins, dahlias, acorns, roses, and even caramel apples can all grace table settings for cute fall décor.

Celebrate with some hard cider, caramel cake, and send your guests home with paper bags of caramel corn. It's a sweet wedding no one is soon to forget.

This board was inspired by the antithesis of red, white, and blue—not that I don't want to celebrate Independence Day but sometimes July weddings are overwhelmed by such intense colors. I kept the "star" struck theme but see a more toned-down, romantic July celebration in the works.

The beauty of a wedding like this is in the details: from the patterned invitation envelope liner, to the glitter sprinkles on the cupcakes, to the metallic star paper used for proper place settings.
What else is a July wedding for if not to celebrate love, romance, fireworks, the season, and our freedom? It's a wonderful set of memories rolled into one beautiful day.

Every Smell a Memory as seen on the West Virginia Wedding's Blog

It's the time of year when the trees shower us with their blooms and fill the air with sweet fragrance. One of my fondest memories from high school in West Virginia was during my junior year. I planned the prom with my best friends and guess who else helped? My Dad! He put together several beautiful bouquets of lilacs and dogwoods for our early May prom and carted them up to Snowshoe Mountain where our dance was located. Also a highly sought out reception venue, it's a beautiful place—I know from experience! 

One of the class sponsors liked my Dad's craftsmanship so much, she ordered 20 more bouquets of lilac and dogwood from a local florist. When I walked in that night, I was overwhelmed for many reasons—but the lilacs' fragrance and the delicate dogwood branches made our prom into such an elegant affair.

People still talk about that prom—not just the students who attended but the staff and teachers who "had" to attend. It's amazing what a flower can transform.

I know reading this, you may think you don't want your wedding to resemble anything remotely close to a high school prom. And it won't. Our prom didn't even resemble one.

I picked this theme this month because of the fond memories a whiff of lilac conjures for me. And that would be my hope for anyone who uses such a unique and fragrant flower—that the memories would be replayed upon each smell.

Want to throw a wedding party and have flowers that will last as long as the memories? This board was inspired by a blog post showing a bride holding her succulent bouquet and the adjacent photo was the newlywed holding her bouquet on her one year anniversary. That's a fun concept.

To welcome spring—royal purple and grays accent the natural blue-greens of the succulents. Succulents would be an easy addition to any jewel toned wedding theme as well. Peacock feathers, moss, and ribbon add whimsy to the celebration.

Make wedding guest memories last just as long by sending them home with miniature potted succulents, easy to take care of even for the least inclined gardener.

What's better to wake up to than the warm, comforting aroma of coffee brewing? Why not lend that comfort and energy to your wedding celebration? This inspiration board was inspired by the smell of coffee and the casual trend of burlap accents. 

Coffee is a perfect theme for an early March brunch, complete with brown bridesmaid dresses, creamy hydrangea bouquets tied up with burlap, and donuts for a mid-morning receptions. 

Best of all? All of the components of this wedding are fun, casual, yet lend an elegant air, but the cost is much lower than a former evening affair with a heavy dinner. 

Serve donuts with coffee, spike it if you like. Enjoy some mimosas and finger sandwiches. If it's warm enough play some croquet. Then send your guests off with a sweet burlap pouch of coffee beans. Not all of the guest coffee drinkers? Send them home with chocolate covered espresso beans, who wouldn't enjoy that boost?

I've always been a fan of Valentine's Day but find the bright reds and magentas overpowering. This inspiration board was inspired by the "Hey Lady" Shoes with the pink ribbon lining.

Valentine's Day can be romantic and sincere—even the nay-sayers might have an "ahhh" moment when they see this light, airy interpretation of the love holiday. Balance the girly pinks and lace with tan, taupe, and even pale blue accents.

Use vintage valentine's as cute and unique save-the-dates and even table numbers. Send guests home with conversation heart cookies expressing your gratitude for their friendship and love.

Art Deco Delight: as seen on the WV Weddings Blog

What kind of inspiration do you draw from the cold winter month of January? The bleak grays seen outside can be turned into a glamourous, modern take on the art deco movement of the 1920's and 30's. 

Simple geometric patterns can be mirrored in everything from the invitation, the cake and even the wedding gown.  

Reaching back to the art deco era, you can find antique pearl earrings and black satin pumps, perhaps in "grandma's" attic. While calling upon this era you can draw inspiration from the beauty-queen-style bouquet with long stems and large luxurious, cream colored blooms. 

Grays, whites, and blacks have never been so entertaining.

Cool weather is finally here and as we pull out our wool blankets and flannel sheets we can draw inspiration from their warmth and natural origins. 

This board focuses on a wedding that is truly homegrown in the mountains of WV: unique textures,  rustic, natural bouquets, and unexpected patterns. 

Pine cone bouquets are a unique, inexpensive, DIY way to give your wedding a funky flair and with the added bonus of that "pine fresh" smell.  Wool blankets in plaid patterns can be used as tablecloths or maybe a much need cloak during outdoor photos. 

Treat guests to artisan cheeses from nearby farms and local wine, just wipe the dust off the bottle. Stick with tradition and offer birdseed for tossing and birdseed ornaments as a natural favor to send guests on their happy way.
